Why choose breast augmentation?

Thanks to advancements in cosmetic surgery tools and techniques, there have never been more options when it comes to breast augmentation. Whether you want fuller breasts, a more lifted breast profile, or changes in the size or shape of your areolas, there are options to suit virtually every set of needs.

Some women choose to have breast augmentation to help them return to their pre-baby size and shape. Others want to lift and fill out breast tissue after significant weight loss or breast cancer treatment.

As long as you’re choosing breast augmentation to align with your personal desires, there’s no “bad” reason to pursue breast augmentation. You should never pursue breast augmentation or any other cosmetic surgery to meet anyone else’s standard of beauty. Your results should make you feel confident and more comfortable in your own skin.

What are some available options for breast augmentation?

Traditional breast augmentation uses implants to refine breast contouring. Today’s implants are safe and effective and represent vast improvements over the implants available to previous generations.

Implants can be made of silicone or saline. They come in various shapes and sizes, and your practitioner helps you find the right fit for your needs.

Another option is a fat transfer procedure to reposition fat from one area of your body to your breasts. This approach is less invasive, and because the transferred tissue is your own, there is very little chance of adverse side effects.

If your breasts are larger than you like, a scarless breast reduction might be a good option. This approach involves removing unwanted fat from your breasts, armpits, or bra line area.

What happens during breast augmentation procedures?

The process begins with medication to eliminate sensation in the treatment areas, and to help you stay relaxed and calm throughout your visit. If you’re having a traditional breast augmentation, an incision allows your practitioner to access your breast tissue and place the implant in the proper position.

Sometimes the implants are placed on top of the muscle tissue in your chest. In other cases, the implant sits beneath this layer of muscle. Once your practitioner is pleased with the positioning of the implants, a series of sutures close the incision, and the healing process begins.
